The role of fiber optic terminal boxes in FTTH networks: fiber optic terminal boxes are used to provide fiber optic termination points with test facilities between the drop cables and the internal wiring of the customer building. The fiber optic terminal box should be installed on the outer wall of the customer building or in the designated communication room. Optical fiber terminal boxes are generally installed on the wall of customers' homes to facilitate customers to provide FTTH services. Fiber optic terminal boxes must be compatible with telecom operators' installation standards and operation and maintenance specifications. Fiber optic terminal boxes must be suitable for the outside environment and constructed for outdoor installation, suitable for flush mount, surface mount on concrete wall or pole mount. Installation of the fiber optic terminal box requires only simple hand tools.
2. The use of fiber optic terminal boxes
Fiber Termination Boxes are used to terminate fiber to customer premises. Fiber optic terminal boxes allow termination, splicing, storage and management of the fibers contained within them. Fiber optic terminal boxes should employ a fiber management system so that all fibers are properly routed and secured. All points in the fiber path should maintain a minimum bend radius of 30 mm.
Fiber optic terminal boxes should be strong and impact resistant and not damaged during placement or installation operations. Fiber optic terminal boxes should be dust, waterproof, weatherproof, and protected from corrosion of the internal hardware. The overall appearance of the installed fiber optic terminal box should be reasonable and beautiful. All materials used in fiber optic termination boxes should be non-toxic and skin friendly. Determine the type of fiber optic terminal box according to the customer's requirements or the size of the building. Usually the fiber optic terminal box has four built-in fiber termination capacities to choose from. Depending on the fiber capability, the box name may be different in different countries.
3. Design structure of optical fiber terminal box
The material used in the fiber optic terminal box is glass fiber reinforced polyester or polycarbonate. Generally, the minimum wall thickness is 32mm. or other suitable dimensions, corresponding to the number of fiber optic terminations or splices to allow efficient fiber management and easy access to all components. Fiber optic terminal boxes have appropriate cable entry and exit holes. A sufficient number of grommet entries or knockout inserts shall provide complete cable entry on the top and bottom panels. Exit holes for distribution of fiber optic lines shall have sufficient number of grommet entry holes or top and bottom panels shall be provided with knock-out inserts to be filled with fiber optic lines. It has at least 4 mounting bolts for wall mounting.
